Sealcoat is a material that is applied on top of asphalt. It is a liquid, and helps to protect pavement from different types of damage, such as cracking due to cold weather, wear due to UV rays from the sun, general use from traffic, and oxidization. It will also prevent pavement from becoming rough or drying out too quickly. Oil and gasoline react with asphalt, and sealcoat creates a sort of barrier between the two to keep them separated.
